Alton Memorial Hospital, in Illinois, is a full-service acute-care hospital serving patients in a seven county area. Alton Memorial offers inpatient and outpatient services including surgery, imaging, rehabilitation and 24-hour emergency care.

Central Sterile Processing Dept is charged with decontaminating and Sterilizing of all instrumentation for the Operating Room and Obstetrics. They prepare case cartsby pulling the sterile supplies that are housed in the dept.Stock misc. sterile supplies for Wound Care and Skin Nurse.

Overview

Role Purpose

Performs a variety of Sterile Processing functions, which include the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of sterile surgical instrumentation to the OR and other areas throughout the hospital. Required to maintain and control both sterile and non-sterile supplies, and identify and remedy equipment and process failures and hazards while maintaining the appropriate and complete records.

Responsibilities

Assembles and processes instruments sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.

Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.

Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.

Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.

Ensures instrumentation is reassembled correctly and functioning properly.
