Overview

Role Purpose

Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10 and CPT classifications in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines for specialty care physician offices. The Coder is responsible for coding procedures performed by physician specialists in the hospital setting for a professional fee.

Responsibilities

Performs accurate data entry by utilizing computerized abstracting system.

Assigns codes for all primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures.

Queries physician for clarification or additional information as required.

Meets production and quality standards for number of records coded and abstracted.

Ensures completeness and quality of record coding.

Minimum Requirements

Degree
